Nibbles: A Breakthrough

Nibbles:   A Breakthrough

This one was thrust upon me by the good graces of Google. The Demi Gods . Realizing

that I had an ardent interest in PD, and its spin offs, took a break from offering me cheap

Chinese goods, bikini clad ladies, and cutting edge, anti-woke comedians and offered this

recent pearl from The Michael J Fox Foundation. As you no doubt know, Michael J Fox, a

movie star who was best known for 'Back to the Future'  In 1991 he was diagnosed with PD

at the age of 31, but this was not disclosed to the public until 1998. He became a strong and

influential advocate for finding a cure and in 2000 founded the Michael J Fox Foundation to

 help fund Research.

In their latest research, the Foundation have published a paper on their breakthrough in

finding a bio marker for PD

.        An article on this can be found at

 https://www.michaeljfox.org/news/breaking-news-parkinsons-disease-biomarker-found

This is good news for doubters like myself who sometimes find themselves wondering

'Do I really have PD?  I am not having the same experience as others I  have met, or seen

propping up discussion on Davis-Phinney Foundation You Tubes, or even those celebrity

victims on the M & S Podcast!'

PD seems to be so complex and demanding to diagnose by observation and experience

that it could be ripe for either under or over-diagnosis. I for one would be grateful for a clear

system whereby we could be classified, even if only to know for which of the Paralympic

events we would qualify.  And then perhaps we could be further sub-divided depending on

which medications we were taking, and the side effects they gave.  If they gave me the same

drug test as an Olympic Athlete right now, I would be banned for Eternity. Just had a

hydrocortisone injection in my knee for the after effects of a (probably) P.D induced fall,

which will prevent me from doing the marathon this week!!
